Eiathan's Heir - Order NowExcerpted from the book: Bjorn looked up between the buildings into the raindrops spattering in his face. Overhead loomed what appeared to be a clock tower. He blinked, wiped the wet off his lashes with the back of his hand, and squinted. The castle walls loomed nearer. He nudged Maeve, pointing up. “We’re nearly there. Now what?”

She whispered, “If we cross by twos and threes?”

He motioned his men ahead out of the inky shadows, Trehan among the first. The rain fell thicker, puddling around their soles as they stepped from the raised edge of the roadway down into the street. A hasp rasped across the square, then a door creaked. Bjorn nodded to himself, took Maeve’s arm and ventured the square. Hardly had they left the sheltering shadows behind when Maeve slipped on the cobbles and gasped.

“Easy,” Bjorn muttered. As he set her back on her feet, he risked an upward glance. A break in the clouds. Moonbeams turned the falling rain to sheets of liquid silver. He couldn’t see the top of the walls for the rain, though he fancied the guards would see him if they happened to look down.

Atop the walls, a sentry challenged and another answered, their words trailing off in a formless murmur.

“Quicker, my lady,” Bjorn urged. “The storm passes.”

A halloo from atop the wall made his heart leap with terror just as they arrived under the eaves of the warehouse…

King's Ride - buy now

Excerpt: As the last man, Baron Herman, kissed Bjorn’s hand and turned away, he said to Lofheld, “You mustn’t be a laggard, herald. Else you’ll lose your life of ease.”

Lofheld glared at him, but knelt at Bjorn’s feet anyway though he had no sword to offer, nor did Trehan offer his.

“I know of your love for Olaf.” The prince allowed his own regret at the king’s sudden departure to show. “You need have no shame that you gave wholehearted obedience to my kinsman.”

Lofheld jerked back, every line of his body proclaiming his angry resentment. “I would also be your man,” he gritted past clenched teeth. He wouldn’t meet the prince’s thoughtful stare for the space of a long, awkward silence.

“How hard it must be to forget your grievances against me. We humiliated you greatly, did we not?”

“You did.”

“Our mistreatment of you seemed wise at the time. I knew no better way to preserve your life from Olaf’s brutal justice. Tell me, Lofheld, is there aught I might do to redress your humiliation?”

Lofheld shook his head, mute. But he relaxed, allowing his shoulders to droop. “I would be your man,” he repeated with less belligerence.

Rendezvous with Death - buy nowThe body of a young man fished out of the Thames is of little interest to Londoners caught up in the excitement of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

As his investigation proceeds, Inspector Tom Blackstone finds himself entering the world of the aristocracy—in which the presence of an ordinary policeman is far from welcome—and tramping the dangerous streets of London’s Little Russia—where English law and order are not welcome.

Death seems to stalk him, and as each new clue leads to nothing more than a new murder, Blackstone comes to realize that he is caught up in what may turn out to be the most horrendous crime of the century…

Blackstone and the Rendezvous with Death is an expertly plotted Victorian mystery that will keep readers guessing to the last page.

Richard R. Holmes

Queen Victoria, Biography - buy now“Her Majesty most graciously consented to supply notes on her childhood and youth… I am, therefore, enabled to present, for the first time, an accurate account of the childhood and youth of Queen Victoria.”

To commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897, the Queen’s librarian compiled her biography.

Queen Victoria gives us a contemporary Victorian insight into the Queen, her peers, her background and her heirs.

As Librarian to the Queen, Holmes gained access to what was then new and private material, including notes written by the Queen herself for Homes to use.

Written in her 60th year on the throne, Queen Victoria provides a detailed account of her reign in those 60 years and before from an intimate perspective, and a personal source.
